MP Wandayi raises concerns over KCSE results integrity basing on KCPE results which were released.
National Assembly Minority Leader James Opiyo Wandayi during a session of the National Dialogue Committee on Saturday 9th December, 2023 alleged the possibility of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education(KCSE) exam results to be inaccurate which is to be released in the coming weeks.
Following his sentiments come a month after the release of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams results whereby the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has come under fire for erroneously awarding some candidates wrong marks and assigning grades for subjects that the learners did not sit for especially kiswahili subject.
Ugunja Member of Parliament, ” I am afraid that if we do not handle the issues surrounding the bungling of the last KCPE and the results, we should be prepared for a similar or even worse thing in the impending release of KCSE results.”
Basing on the same issues, MP Wandayi felt that KCSE results should be looked into account to avoid marred errors like KCPE has left Kenyans into dilemma loosing trust to KNEC body.
” Unless this issue is addressed, we should expect the worst when it comes to KCSE, I am not being an alarmist because I am a very responsible Kenyan but I can tell you,” Wandayi said.
In his speech, the Ugunja Member of Parliament raised worries at the Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu and the the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) over the alleged existence of cartels within the ministry of education and KNEC which could land students and even the exam body into more problems.
He questioned the criteria use in awarding the tender to the company contracted to print the examination papers ; should be thorough investigated before given .
” The cabinet secretary for education alongside officers from his docket were in parliament and after lengthy deliberations a lot more questions emerged. Instead of finding answers to many questions that were lingering, he left a lot more questions; these cartels must be stopped,” noted James Wandayi.
Following the ongoing protests by Junior secondary school (JSS) teachers’ employment and payments, he advocated for JSS to be domiciled in secondary schools as initially planned, regarding lack of capacity of primary schools to failure of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) as a lawmaker.
