New salary scale for teaching and non-teaching BOM staffs.
Following the opening of school on January 2024,the Ministry of Education has well established guidelines on terms of teaching and non-teaching staff in secondary schools employed by Board of Management(BoM).
Board of Management employs both teaching and non-teaching staff.
The guidelines borrow from the 2014 findings of Dr Kilemi Mwiria education task force. The task force proposed specific number of workers per institution and their fixed salaries.
According to findings the highest paid non-teaching staff is the bursar who is entitled to earn a basic salary of up to Sh41,000 while Security Personnel and Grounds Men or Women are the least paid. They pocket between Sh9,660 and Sh11,370 per month. More on website: http://www.education.ac.ke
Most employees of BoM include teachers who are hired to plug shortage of teaching force in the country, under the current staffing due to the high increased population.
Salaries of BoM teachers vary from school to school. It is important to note that BoM teachers are paid according to the size of the school.
Education Matters News has however established that teachers in single streamed schools BoM teachers take home at-least Sh10,000 per month while those teaching in most National schools are paid between Sh18,000 to 25,000.
However, in the latest circular from the ministry of education, all BoM teachers are expected to be paid a flat rate of Ksh. 20,000 till the end of the year. Payment will be backdated to the month of July.
