Ways as Outlined.
1. Involve parents so they can help motivate their child. If you’re a teacher or faculty member, make appointments with at-risk children for home visits with their parents. Or, host parent-teacher conferences to make an initial connection.
2. Push them toward sports or clubs to get them involved with school life. Students who play sports are more likely to go to college and even earn better grades.
3. Motivate your students by emphasizing the importance of education. If you’re a teacher, try to make connections between your lessons and the real world whenever you can.
4. Try to provide things like textbooks and materials for free. These small costs can add up, and if students don’t have the money, they may not be able to stay in school
5. Motivate your students by telling them how education leads to a career. Talk to your students about degrees and how they often correlate with well-paying jobs and professions.
6. Encourage peer involvement; Students are more likely to succeed when they are surrounded by positive peers who encourage and support them. Programs that encourage peer involvement may include mentoring groups, discussion clubs, and collaborative projects. Students can help each other, share ideas and learn together. In addition, peers can help prevent bullying, isolation and other social problems that can contribute to school dropout.
7. A comprehensive violence prevention plan, including conflict resolution, must deal with potential violence as well as crisis management. A safe learning environment provides daily experiences, at all grade levels, that enhance positive social attitudes and effective interpersonal skills in all students.
8. Preventing dropouts among girls at an early age needs a “systemic approach”, she said. “Implementing gender transformative policies that address intersectional gender disparities in education, providing safe and inclusive learning environments, offering financial support like scholarships and incentives, ensuring access to healthcare and menstrual hygiene resources, engaging communities using cinema, theatre and arts to change social norms around girls’ education, and fostering mentorship programmes can help retaining adolescent girls in schools.”
The National Education Policy 2020 is focused on no child being left behind in terms of educational opportunity because of their background and socio-cultural identities. Educationist Meeta Sengupta said that the real test of the NEP 2020 is its impact on dropout rates.
“New reforms take a while to set in, and nationwide NEP-driven foundational learning and teacher training revival is in progress. The test of it will be whether dropouts are reduced. The old ways with learning gaps, book learning only at school prevails and must give way to on-call, need-based hybrid learning,” she said.
