The EACC CEO said the campaign against fake certificates in the legislature is alarming to many Kenyans.
The Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission Chief Executive Officer(Twalib Mbarak) while attending the 20th international Anti-corruption world Day against corruption in Murang’a county on Saturday,9th December, 2023 noted with a lot of concern about the qualification of the government employees.
This comes after the CEO revealed that he recently received a letter from the Attorney General’s Office seeking mutual help over an employee purported to have a university degree from a neighbouring country.
Twalib Mbarak said, “He is a CEC in a county in charge of mining and the letter was in bold that this certificate is fake, we managed to capture one”.
The Chief Executive Officer is in a shock about what would happen if the crackdown against fake certificates takes action at all levels of government including parliament.
“So in Parliament, I don’t know what will happen, the central government. We need to see how to address the issue of fake certificates, examination cheating…” he said.
The EACC’s warning is coming at a time when there has been claims of person presenting fake academic certificates. This implicates the lives of many Kenyans
“Employers, universities and colleges bear a significant blame for the forgery of academic certificates in public service,” EACC deputy Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud told MPs on July 27.
The antigraft czar reiterated his commitment to fighting forged academic papers, urging other State agencies not to give up the fight.
“Don’t give up in the fight against the fight on fake academic papers. Support the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, support the EACC and judiciary.”
“We must support the citizen because they are ignorant. Citizens are the most powerful as they will elect these leaders,” he said.
Flashbacking the election which was conduct in 2022 majority of the politician were caught with fake certificates which made them been disqualified for via from different seats.
Academic fraud is a threat to the kenyan’s education system, it will reach a point where an exam needs to be done before admitting any student in the colleges and universities levels.
