Shocking! Backsliding Medical Cover Reforms.
According to the Government plan to scrap medical cover for public secondary school students comprising of varied local and regional destinations has taken a major U-turn after the Kenyan Government declared pivotal changes on its earlier decision on the matter.
Addressing through the Ministry of Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha today the 4th day of January 2024, the Kenyan Government has intimated that it will not scrap the medical cover for secondary school students institutionalized by the former Jubilee regime.

The Kenyan Government has remarked without benefits of doubt that it was illogical for students to have a medical cover yet the entire household is not covered. It underscored reception of medical cover for students under their respective households as the best way to go.
While appearing before the Parliamentary committee on Education on the 30th day of November 2023, NHIF CEO Elijah Wachira notified legislators that the state agency had decided to do away with medical cover for all public secondary school learners.
He bosomed that NHIF would terminate all service provider contracts under EduAfya by December 31, 2023, thus leaving over 3.4 Million students without a medical cover.
“For those who have had questions on EduAfya I want to assure you that all students are going to be covered under their households, because it does not make sense to cover a student who comes from a household and the rest of the household is not covered. Previously we have spend Ksh4.6 Million on EduAfya but now we are going to make sure that we put that Ksh4.6 Million into one basket to cover the whole household where that student comes from,” Ministry of Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha stated.
