Release to Intern Teachers.
Following the meeting held, the Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua gave an assurance to Intern Teachers about absorbing them on matters of permanent and pensionable basis and as well recruiting new teachers inorder to curb for the shortages and the gaps in junior secondary school (JSS) education.
The DP Gachagua says that they have a plan of employing over 110, 000 teachers progressively to curb the bridge of deficit of teachers that will help to release the burden of under staffing for teachers in JSS so that we enhance probable and improved standards of teaching and content delivery to learners.
During 63rd Kenya National Union of Teachers(KNUT) Annual Delegates Conference at Karasani, Nairobi DP Gachagua says: ” I am aware of the push to have those in internship confirmed as permanent and pensionable terms. It was a deliberate strategy on our part with negotiations with Teachers Service Commission because of budgetary constraints, we agreed that we take some teachers on permanent and pensionable terms and others as interns but upon any employment in future they will get the first opportunities for conversion to permanent terms,”
He also address the issues of insecurity to teachers in some parts of the country apart from deliberating unemployment cases and promoting the good standards of education which have been put in place. Regions like North Rift in some parts and North Eastern parts just mentioning a few have been seriously disturbed by criminals hence hindering a conducive environment for learning to take place (teacher-learner centred not appropriate). Gachagua says, “we are undertaking a disarmament exercise to rid these areas of insecurity. We also understand the value of education in sustainably addressing banditry and other forms of security threats as we progressively move communities from past retrogressive practices. I take this moment to confirm to you that security of the North Eastern and areas prone to terrorism are on our radar and we will not relax until we restore peace,” .
DP Gachagua appealed to the Teachers Service Commission to look into the account and come up with the way of balancing teachers to avoid disadvantaging in some regions since teachers have the choice of preferred areas to serve in the other sectors later choose education since it’s a noble call.
