From the lastest revelation in education, the Competency Based Curriculum,CBC is the upcoming education system in Kenya. It has undergone significant changes since the Kenyan government institutionalized these changes.
Since it’s exodus the CBC system has faces several challenges due to stabilizing the keys areas to be covered and the proper content to be studied at different levels.
Today on January, 2024 the Kenyan government announced significant changes to the number of subjects taught in the Competency Based Curriculum through Cabinet Secretary of Education Mr. Ezekiel Machogu.
From the current eight subjects taught in Lower Primary (which essentially covers students in Grades 1 through 3), the Kenyan government has drastically reduced that number to just seven. The state has also declared that it will strategically cut the number of Lower Primary lessons taught in a given week from 35 to 31.
” The number of lessons to be reduced from 40 to 36 per week including a pastoral programme of instruction,” CS Machogu remarked.
Furthermore, from the speech of CS Machogu we are expecting more expanded curriculum that will sharpen the critical thinking of learners.
The Upper Primary, which consists of students in Grades 4 through 6, will likely receive fewer subjects than the current 10 to 8, according to indications from the Kenyan government. The system is likely to produce more important and useful people in the country like best doctors and best engineers.
According to information released by the state, students at the aforementioned educational level will now only receive 36 lessons per week instead of 40.
Following the currently changes that were done by the government of Kenya through the Ministry of Education, learners have high hopes of high standards of teaching unlike the previous ones.
