Degree Teachers to teach JSS not Certificates!
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) reiterated its stance on the deployment of P1 teachers with specific degrees, limiting their assignment to Junior Secondary Schools (JSS). This decision comes amidst a backdrop of ongoing efforts by the commission to uphold educational standards and ensure quality teaching across all levels.
According to the TSC, individuals holding degrees not aligned with the current curriculum are ineligible for teaching positions, even if they possess a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE).

This stringent stance extends to those with PGDE qualifications augmented by additional courses. The commission maintains that adherence to existing guidelines for new teacher registration is essential to maintain educational integrity.
The TSC’s rationale stems from concerns regarding the depth of knowledge in two teaching disciplines among educators with non-conforming degrees. It argues that such courses lack sufficient subject substance, potentially compromising the quality of instruction delivered to students.
Only individuals holding a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree, coupled with a PGDE and proficiency in two teaching subjects, are deemed eligible for teacher registration. The deployment portal for qualified educators to apply has been made available, with applications set to be reviewed by March 18, 2023.
