Now ECDE Teachers Can Smile in Kisii County.
Teachers of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) in kisii County have higher hopes for employment on permanent and pensionable terms.
This comes during 2023 the Kisii County Public service (PSB) made a significant changes for over 900 ECDE Teachers.
Governor Paul Simba Arati during the 12th December, 2023 Jamhuri Day has directed the transition of these teachers from contract terms to Permanent and Pensionable terms.
He highlighted that improving the teachers’ well-being is a major step towards enhancing services and performance in early education since ECDE is an integral part of the development of children both psychologically, socially and academically.
” Indeed, you are the ones tasked to train the young children you receive,at an early age, through the basics of education and life skills. This is a special and honourable responsibility,” Mr. Simba Arati lamented.
Looking at the manifesto of Governor Arati during campaigns of 2022, ECDE was one of the major sector that he promised to improve through provision with better equipped centres, facilitation and improved teacher remuneration. The governor expressed gratitude to the teacher for their patience, acknowledging that they have been on contract for the past 10 years with little improvement in their terms.
” Equally, the last time we met, eight months ago, I promised you that your terms of service will be considered for alteration, from contract to permanent establishment, once we have a new County Public Service Board in place,” Governor Simba noted.
Stagnation was due to lack of new board but now in office is the Kisii County Public Service Board which is prioritizing the review of the ECDE Teachers’ engagement for possible placement on favourable permanent terms. He also ordered the resolution of all pending matters related to ECDE teachers to be catered for.
“All pending matters involving ECDE teachers are to be addressed, including the establishment of a scheme of service for ECDE teachers to streamline operations,” ordered Governor Arati.
Governor Simba remarked that over 70,000 ECDE learners in 703 centres, annually allocates substantial funds for ECDE programs. He also disclosed about the efforts made on ongoing construction of modern ECDE classrooms throughout the county based on the new Competence Based Curriculum,CBC with the aim of providing good quality basic education.
Our focus is to improve the facilities into all-round state of the art ECDE centres equipped with teaching aids, TV sets, play grounds, napping areas and all basic amenities required in child development, including a sustainable nutrition,” he noted.
Furthermore, he added that as part of his administrations resolve to address all pending staff matters, the public service board has also been tasked to consider the case of the nurses who were dismissed from service in unclear circumstances, about 2 years ago.
