Senators wants more explanations about teachers on contract terms from TSC.
Following the allegations made by intern teachers especially those teaching on Junior secondary school over discrimination by TSC officers. The Teacher Service Commission,TSC is set to face senators over those hired teachers on contract terms
This comes after a large number of Junior secondary school teachers hired on a contract basis for a long duration without being confirmed on Permanent and Pensionable as they were promised by the commission on letters of appointment and more worse threatened to down tools upon protesting to go to strike come January 2024.
In January next year 2024, rumours speak there will be no confirmation on permanent and pensionable terms of those tutors literally opposite of what is indicated in their letters of appointment.
Likewise, the commission has put plans to extend their contracts instead of employing them on permanent and pensionable terms so that new teachers can be recruited on the same contracts.
Senators now wants detailed explanations led by nominated senator, Esther Okenyuri Anyieni who is a Member of Parliament, (nominated by Kenya’s rulling party, United Democratic Alliance) from Dr. Nancy Macharia who is the chief Executive Officer of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The lawmakers demands the commission to explain about the push we have on teachers in internship without being confirmed on Permanent and Pensionable terms and whether the teachers were eligible for employment on permanent and pensionable terms. Senator Esther Okenyuri seeks the answers from the Senate Education Committee chaired by Murang’a senator Joe Ngutu, which is set to summon Nancy Macharia to explain more on the needs of teachers at large.
“The committee should explain whether these contract employed-teachers are not eligible for employment by the Teachers Service Commission on Permanent and Pensionable terms,” Okenyuri Lamented.
